Jenisch Haus is one of the most beautiful historic buildings in Hamburg. It is located in a spacious landscape garden on the banks of the Elbe. From the rooms facing south you have a spectacular view over the river and ships.

Originally Jenisch Haus was the country seat of the Hamburg merchant construction senator Martin Johan von Jenisch the Younger. It was built between 1831 and 1834 to designs by Franz Gustav Forsmann and Karl Friedrich Schinkel.
Today the Museum of Arts and Culture on the Elbe, on the ground floor it shows off representative halls with rich stucco and parquet floors and furniture, paintings and sculptures from the Empire and Biedermeier.
